Alexander off Cape Elizabeth; Maine. Ship lost its bow at the height of the gale that swept the Atlantic coast yesterday. The vessel had to be run on to the beach. Rescue crew are shown here as they use hand power rather than machine lest they part the slender lifeline to the stricken vessel.
