Notes
Lot 17, Con. 1 East. Spring Garden Ave.- 43. The second McBride house originally located at the corner of Empress & Yonge Street (the first was a log cabin). John McBride, son of Sergeant John McBride Sr., settled on lot 17, con. 1 east in the early 1800s (though the patent wasn't registered until 1830). This house was probably built around 1875, by Edward McBride, who acquired the north half of lot 17 in that year. The house was moved in the 1920s from Yonge near Empress to 43 Spring Garden Avenue, as pictured in this photo. Despite attempts to save the house by moving it, the building was likely demolished in the 1980s to make way for a 23-storey apartment building and shopping complex.
