Original Toronto Star caption: Motorists take a traffic-light break on Avenue Rd. at Dupont St. today to clear car windows as a storm; which weather officials warn could create havoc on southern Ontario roads tonight; already had made Metro streets treacherously slick by noon. Scores of minor collisions had been reported. By noon; Ontario Provincial Police said the storm - already in the Chatham area; and heading east - virtually had closed Highway 401. Winds gusted to 50 miles an hour.
