Original Toronto Star caption: A Common Sight in the days ahead if the Metro outside workers' strike continues will be pile-ups of garbage like this one on Pembroke St. today. In the city of Toronto garbage is collected by members of CUPE and this service ceased at 7 a.m. today when the union went on strike to back up demands for a pay raise of 40 cents an hour over two years. Top Metro offer was 35 cents an hour. Garbage collection in the suburbs is not expected to be affected by the strike.
