Original Toronto Star caption: Canadians were bitter; frustrated; sometimes even violent by 1935; when this picture was taken as protest march of unemployed was leaving Scarborough for Ottawa. Great Depression already was half a decade old. Many factors would keep exactly same conditions from recurring - factors like insurance of bank deposits; programs to care for disadvantaged; unemployed; hard-won knowledge of dangers of cooling off national economies with too much restraint.
