Original Toronto Star caption: Pacific Coast Japanese-Canadians evacuated by government orders to Schreiber; where they will work on the trans-Canada highway; are sorry to be forced to leave British Columbia; but glad to help Canada's war effort. More than 130 arrived there Wednesday. One of them suggested that a fifth column of Canadian Japanese be organized for espionage work in Japan. All were doubtful of their welcome in Schreiber; but prepared to work hard on the highway. En route they played cards; sang; listened to phonograph records.
