Original Toronto Star caption: Chosen as mother of the year and a model worker in the large Canadian gun arsenal where she works; Mrs. Mabel Irven is on the job from 7.30 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. six days a week. Two sons enlisted soon after the outbreak of war. One; John; is missing after Dieppe; and Leonard is serving with the Royal Canadian Navy. The plant where Mrs. Irven is employed turns out hundreds of guns a month. Mrs; Irven is a fitter; working on one of the most important parts of the mechanism. She has one of the best attendance records in the plant and has participated in every Victory Loan campaign.
