Original Toronto Star caption: Mantle of snow blanketing these cars on a Yonge St. car lot gives them the appearance of having settled in for a long winter hibernation. Many Metro motorists would find this idea appealing after spending as much as six hours crawling home at the height of last night's slush hour. Many cars stalled and were abandoned on the streets. This added another element of risk for those driving. Police report that the accident rate was about twice the normal.

The storm battered Metro with snow, sleet and howling winds, turning streets into a sea of sludge.
