Original Toronto Star caption: A great day to stay in bed; It was not a day for weak batteries or wet spark-plugs; motorists found today as the season's heaviest snowfall struck Metro; accompanied by extreme cold. This was the scene this morning at Gerrard St. and Alton Ave. as people pushed a stalled car. A disabled westbound subway train at Royal York station delayed early rush-hour commuters; and buses were running about 15 minutes behind as workers scrambled to clear snow-clogged streets. Metro roads and traffic department sent 120 trucks; including 65 salt spreaders; out on the streets last night.
