Original Toronto Star caption: Everything from soup to nuts can fascinate individuals once they've discovered in themselves the collector's instinct. And starting one collection can often lead to another obsession for another type of memorabilia or beautiful object that the collector can't live without. That's how photographer John Sebert became an inveterate collector. A simple tin can started off his hunt for the unusual and led to his collecting other pieces of nostalgia like the old advertising signs, shown above, which cover a whole wall of his apartment. The signs didn't cure him of his love for cans, he has shelves of those, too.

Doreen MacDonald picked up a toaster from a pile of battered appliances in the Qeen St. E. Soup-to-nuts junk store run by Jack Himself Cohen. One dollar. Himself said. Does it work? Doreen asked. I don't know. Why don't you plug it in and find out? All I do is sell as is. You won't plug it in? No. Doreen paid the $1 and once again proved Himself's credo: I don't polish anything. I learned my lesson when I polished the $25 special finish off a candelabra early in business. Since then I sell everything just as it is. [Incomplete]
