Original Toronto Star caption: A special award was presented yesterday to Axel, an 85-pound German shepherd, and his handler, Constable John Martin of the Winnipeg police. When a bank-robbery suspect shot at Martin, Axel jumped him and deflected his aim. After getting his award at the Royal York, Axel snarled fiercely on Martin's order.
