Original Toronto Star caption: On the rise: Harold Adamson, Metro Toronto police chief, tells a news conference that shoplifting is increasing dramatically, especially among adults. Behind Adamson are several newspaper and subway ads that will begin appearing Monday stressing the cost of theft. Retailers estimate shoplifting costs them at least $100,000 a day in Metro. Listening to Adamson is Doug Gilmour of the Board of Trade, which is aiding the campaign.
