Original Toronto Star caption: Tommy Anderson remembers getting off the ice after a skate, and crying all the way home because my ankles were so sore. That was more than 70 years ago, back in Sunderland, England. But Anderson, 81, wasn't discouraged. The Etobicoke resident still skates regulary at city rinks, and has won several medals at the annual Senior Olympic Games in Lake Placid, N.Y. Anderson recalls his initial attraction to the sport was the big people with the long blades on. They seemed to glide so smoothly to the music. I had to learn the stride. He became hooked on speed-skating and started practising every night.
