Original Toronto Star caption: Quadruple gold: John Naber was the swimming superstar for the U.S. winning two individual gold medals and helping two relay teams caputre first place. Naber set a world record of 55.49 seconds in the 100-metre backstroke. He also won the 200-metre backstroke. The American men dominated the men's competition in the Olympic pool; while East Germans scored heavily in women's events.
