Original Toronto Star caption: Malcolm Bradbury; the English critic; playwright and comic novelist - who reads to night at Harborfront's International Authors' Festival - has had a previous Toronto connection which has endeared him to the city. It was back in 1952 when he was 18; already excited by the North American continent; that he came to Toronto on a scholarship. I was interested in television writing and wanted to take a look at the CBC. My sponsor; however; went broke by the time I arrived; so here I was with scarcely a penny in my pocket. [Incomplete]
