Original Toronto Star caption: Through the mists of mosport a young couple walk past cars and trailers as the sun rises today over the site of the Strawberry Fields festival. Behind them; on the elevated area; is the main camp site where about 50;000 young people have put up small tents; makeshift plastic shelters; or just huddled under blankets for the three-day combination motorcycle racing-rock music gathering that was heavily advertised in the U.S. as the place to come for love; sun and sound. Quite a few also came for drugs; which have been sold and consumed openly. By today; medical teams had already treated 100 persons for drug-induced bad trips; but police reported few other problems with the crowd.
