The realism; heightened here by trimming the photograph along the edge of the painting's frame; differs from the strictly representational works of other Canadian artists. Its power derives from the tensions created by an abrup perspective. The viewer is too close to the scene. Realism like this is making a comeback: Mrs. Pflug now gets $4;000 per painting.
