More than $1.25 million was pledged during the weekend to the first annual Variety Club Telethon to help cover the costs of the $8.2-million Variety Village Training and Fitness Centre for disabled youth which opened last week in Scarborough. Telethon hosts, from left, Don Harron, Catherine McKinnon, Ann Rohmer, Al Waxman and Monty Hall showed their appreciation with applause. About 1,500 volunteers manned phones and performed during the 21-hour show broadcast by Global Television Network.
