Original Toronto Star caption: Inmates call this death row in the jail at Stratford. Five locked in their cells died very, very quickly from carbon monoxide poisoning in a fire Dec. 18, a pathologist testified yesterday at opening of an inquest into their deaths. A guard inspects still soot-blackened and charred cellblock. Mattresses and bedding had been set on fire beside front entrance to 30-foot-long block. It was testified five keys were needed to get from block's rear door to ground-floor fire exit.
