Desk: Workmen are busy boarding up and taking safety precautions at that 'ghost building' on Bayview Extension we wrote about last week. All the balcony windows from top to bottom have been boarded for the first time anyone can remember. It is the result of our story. Family affair: For Leo Badali, owner of a fruit-and-vegetable store on Bayview Ave., business is a family affair. 'We were brought up in the store, and we've always enjoyed it,' says son Domenic, pictured (left to right) with Sal, Vicki and Lena.

Uncle Frank Dawson tends to one of his injured wildfowl at his 3 3/4-acre conservation area on Elmcrest Rd. The 83-year-old bachelor has been patching up injured birds for as long as anyone can remember. With a small creek running through the back, his property has become a haven for hundreds of waterfowl. He has lived in the same house for over 50 years and has raised a varietyof birds. But Dawson can't recall when people started to bring birds to him, he said.

We believe that everything we do must be governed by religious principles, says Joseph Benedetto, left, who sends all his children to the St. Boniface Separate School. From left are Michael, 11, Suzanne, 4 (seated), Anthony, 7, Karen, 16, Mrs. Benedetto, and Jo-Anne, 13, in front. Their street is affectionately called Catholic Court because, with nine neighboring houses, it sends 42 children to St. Boniface school.
