Original Toronto Star caption: The once-proud showpiece of Yonge St.; Eaton's main stroe; becomes a broken pile of bricks; concrete and steel girders today as demolition began on old building that dominated the corner of Yonge and Queen Sts. for as long as most people can remember. This was how building looked this morning from second-floor window at old city hall; looking east across James St. Phase 2 of new Eaton Centre; which replaces company's downtown stores; by year 1979.
