Original Toronto Star caption: Today the block is a pock-marked; boarded-up eyesore; But nearby renovations on Shuter St. at Jarvis are a reminder of how one-time flophouses can be restored to create a vivid Victorian streetscape again. The block belongs to the federal government which bought it to build a parking garage for the RCMP whole building is around the corner. We don't have an plans to tear them down;; said a public works official. We're exploring other parking solutions. We don't know what we'll do with them yet - the department to my knowledge has never been involved with restoring buildings before. But the Toronto Historical Board is concerned that with squatters living in sme of them; and vandalism an ever-present danger; the buildings are at risk until they are restored.
