Original Toronto Star caption: Unwed Father may see his baby; in hospital as soon as it's born; because technically he's responsible for supporting child until it's 16 or adopted. In practice; however; provincial government pays the bill and fathers pay the government what money they can. Children's Aid workers don't want to see low-income men burdened all their lives. Unwed mothers are not legally obliged to pay anything for the care of the child. But it is suggested they help ease the burden.
