Original Toronto Star caption: The winners in three categories at the Canadian National Exhibition baking contest yesterday proudly display their shortbread; fruitcake; and cookies. Here from left are: Edith Rae; Helen hawke and Betty Minaker. Victory brings honors but no real financial rewards. The first prize is usually $5 or $10 while it costs most contestants more than that for ingredients to develop winning recipes - not counting the time they take.
