Original Toronto Star caption: The Captain of the ferry Maple City; which shuttles back and forth between Bathurst St. and the Island Airport; Ali Bakir; was a pilot on the Suez Canal for 12 years; taking 1;500 ships through. He came to Canada in 1969; after the Suez was closed by ships sunk during the Arab-Israeli war; worked first as a crew member on a dredger; then took a course and got Great Lakes captain's papers.
