Original Toronto Star caption: An overnight storm with snow; freezing rain; sleet; thunder an lightning turned roads into treacherous obstacle courses today and sent firemen at the Front St. station; near Parliament St.; out to clear a path for their trucks. Manning the shovels are (from left) firemen John Robinson; Jim Street; Al Smith; Lyle Linn and Bert Boyd. Some snowplow operators were caught with the plow blades removed from their trucks; there was delay getting them in use.
