Original Toronto Star caption: Getting ready for hard winter ahead. In case you are beginning to feel too comfortable with the summer weather; here is a typical Toronto harbor scene these days. The 600-foot lake freighter Nordale; of Hamilton; is shown unloading about 10;-000 tons of road salt at the clock of the Iroquois Salt Co.; at the turning basin; just off Cherry St. More than 100;000 tons of salt - the curse of every motorist - are used on Metro roads each year. The height of the salt piles is a sure sign of a hard winter ahead.
