Original Toronto Star caption: Taxi driver staggers after gunman who shot him. The dotted line shows how Lawrence Owen; taxi driver; staggered around the corner of Church and Granby Sts. after a young man whom he drove from the west end had drawn a gun and shot him. Clutching his stomach; Owen grabbed at his assailant; missing him. Trying to hobble after the gunman he clutched a barber pole; and had started to slither to the ground when Mrs. Gladys Ciretti caught him.

A Sudbury mining executive who cast fear to the wind when he chased a gunman who moments earlier had shot and killed a pro-inspector at the Royal York Hotel, has been awarded a police citation. But yesterday, after receiving the civilian citation for bravery from Metro police commissioners, Lloyd Bardswich could only recall the incident with wonderment.
