Original Toronto Star caption: Block of land north of City Hall purchased by syndicate.  One of the largest real estate deals in Toronto in recent years, has taken place, by the purchase of a parcel of land fronting on Bay, Louisa, Elizabeth and Hagerman streets, lying just north of Toronto city hall. The deal, which involves more than a half-million dollars, has been closed by Gibson Brothers, well known realtors. There are many buildings standing on the land just purchased, but most of them are of little monetary value, being more in the nature of landmarks of early Toronto. Some of the property involved is shown by a Star photographer....BELOW are Elizabeth and Louisa streets, looking north on Elizabeth.

Published in the Toronto Daily Star, 16 February 1925, page 3, with article, "Old landmarks involved in half-million-dollar sale".

The owners of Young Sai Tong and Co. grocers, didn't know it, of course, when this picture was taken in 1925, but their store occupied what would become one of Toronto's most famous areas decades later. For their store at Elizabeth and Louisa Sts. sat on what is now Nathan Phillips, the site of the present City Hall."
