Original Toronto Star caption: Esert Tuareg; in Timbuktu with his camel for the market; with a soldier of the Mali army; which has taken over the old Legion post and polices the area as best it can. Torists can get to Timbuktu easier today than in the old days; when it could cost your life; but it's still a long way from being a resort. The heat is intense and the accommodation far from comfortable.
