Original Toronto Star caption: Lionel Barrymore became famous in 1931- He made his debut on the stage at the age of 15, with his maternal grandmother, Mrs. John Drew, started in the movies in 1909. He never became as famus on stage or screen as his brother John, until he played in A Free Soul, in 1931. His splended acting won the award of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the best performance of the year, made him a box office star. His first wife was Doris Rankin. His second and present wife, Irene Fenwick, he married in 1923.
