Original Toronto Star caption: Her eye is on the ball. Carling Bassett returns a shot to eighth-seeded Jill Hetherington during quarter-final action yesterday at the $50,000 Sun Life tennis tournament in Mississauga. Bassett, the No. 1 seed, overcame both her opponent and a shaky umpire to win, 6-3, 7-5, earning her a semifinal date today with defending champion Jane Young. Bassett said after the match that the officiating could have been more professional. At one point, fans started calling out points.
