Original Toronto Star caption: Greased up, Marilyn is pictured walking down the beach at Cap Gris Nez with coach Gus Ryder. The grease was taken off before the actual start. As dawn breaks, Marilyn is adjusting her cap and goggles just before starting a swim that almost to the end looked as if it would break records, She took 14 hours and 36 minutes for the cross-channel swim
