Original Toronto Star caption: 'Topped off' with a bang. Fireworks and a golden bucket of cement were part of the celebrations today marking the completion of a new Toronto landmark. The 33-storey Simpson Tower, on the southeast corner of Bay and Queen, was the scene of the 'topping-off' ceremony-hoisting of the final bucket of exterior cement. The lever that sent it up was operated by G. Allan Burton, president of Simpsons Ltd., seen here looking out from the top of the 471-foot building. The Tower is No. 3 in Canada. (The Toronto-Dominion Centre and the Imperial Bank of Commerce are 1 and 2.)
