Original Toronto Star caption: Simpson helps eaton's expand. Competition was friendly - although Eaton's had to have the last word in tags - as President E. G. Burton (left) of Simpsons and President Fredrik Eaton of Eaton's each dug a shovelful of earth today at the site of the old Eaton's store to launch the start on the second phase of Toronto Eaton Centre. It will extend the three-level Galleria to its full 860-foot length from present cutoff at Albert St. to Queen St. where a bridge and underground connection will link it to newly renovated Simpsons store. Completion date, August 1979.
