Original Toronto Star caption: Two leaders of a group of doctors who now extra-bill their patients say that if the government bans the practice, they will defy the law, pay the fines imposed and even go to jail. Dr. Joan Charboneau, president of the Association of Independent Physicians of Ontario, told a legislative committee yesterday the group's 800 member doctors find this bill completely unacceptable . . . and I want you all to know we simply will not abide by it.
