Original Toronto Star caption: Back-Slapping Backbenchers give Prime Minister Diefenbaker a cheery welcome as he arrives at the House of Commons yesterday. However, proceedings were gloomy when he left the Commons for his home last night shortly after 10 o'clock. His Progressive Conservative administration's eight-month life had come to an end when the opposition parties twice mustered 142 votes to the government's 109 on non-confidence votes.
