Original Toronto Star caption: Flying high: The progression in travel . . . tells the story of the NDP, says former leader David Lewis (right). The first NDP leader, M. J. Coldwell (centre), had to take trains along the campaign trail. Later, the party could afford to put Tommy Douglas (left) on commercial flights. Lewis chartered a small plane in 1972. This time, the NDP had a jet.
