Format
Aunt Effie's rhymes for little children : with twenty-four illustrations. ''London: Printed by Petter, Duff, and Co. Crane Court, Fleet Street.''--verso of t.p.; repeated, without ''London: Printed by'', p. [96]. At one time generally attributed to Mrs. Ann (Lady A.J.) Hawkshaw: thus Brit. Mus. catalogue; Halkett & Laing; and F.H. Darton, Children's books in England, 1932, p. 280. Alternative attribution to Mrs. Saxby (i.e. Jane Euphemia Browne S., not Jessie Margaret Edmondston S.), noted in Halkett & Laing, now prevails: e.g. Darton, 3rd ed. 1982, p. 274, where the attribution is silently emended to Saxby. Bound in blue marbled cloth blocked in gold. Illustrations engraved by M.U. Sears (about half signed) are hand-coloured. Undated. Date from BLC.
