Original Toronto Star caption: A man is taken to hospital in critical condition after being wounded by a police shotgun blast at the end of a 1 1/2-hour siege in an east Toronto apartment. The incident allegedly started when a rooming-house attendant was ordered at gunpoint to repair the plumbing. Police sealed off the street but when tear gas failed to make the gunman surrender an armed constable was forced to shoot the man.
