Original Toronto Star caption: Canada's capitol offered a capital greeting to Charles and Diana. Multitudes were out; 25;000 here; 15;000 there. They carried flags and welcoming placards; sang Happy Birthday for the couple's one-year-old son William who was back home in England. There was even a Diana lookalike promenading through Parliament Hill crowds. There were functions galore - the opening of a new police headquarters; a state dinner; a barbecue with 1;000 Canadian notables; a Kiwanis Club luncheon; a trip by motor launch on the Rideau Canal.
