Milne House, Edwards Gardens, Toronto, Ontario

Lot 5, Con. 2 East. Lawrence Ave. Milne house. The house stood in the present Edwards Gardens until destroyed by fire in November 1962. Alexander Milne settled on the land in 1827, building a saw mill and fulling works at the southwest corner of Lawrence and Leslie. The house was built by Peter Milne (Alexander's second son and a blacksmith). The house was altered and added to by R. E. Edwards, who purchased the land in 1944 and began to turn it into a park. Metropolitan Toronto bought the property in 1955 and Edwards Gardens opened to the public in June of the following year. In 1964 the house was replaced with a building designed by Raymond Moriyama that still stands today.
