Original Toronto Star caption: Where French Prisoners go to ''Dry Guillotine'': A convict-drawing of Les Isles du Salut?the Isles of Salvation?part of the Devil's Island penal colony in French Guiana. Davil's Island itself is the smallest of the three?to the RIGHT. It was here that Captain Dreyfus was imprisoned 35 years ago. This island shelters only a dozen deportes?all spies or traitors. On Ile Royale, to the LEFT, are the administration offices, and the hospital. To the ''bearpits'' on Ile St. Joseph (in the foreground) prisoners are sent as punishment for trying to escape.
