Original Toronto Star caption: 35 miles to go, Star religion editor Tom Harpur stops for a rest on the ruined walls of ancient city of Jericho, overlooking a deserted town of mud huts which once housed about 75,000 Palestinian refugees. They fled to Jordanian territory when six-day Israeli war broke out in 1967. Jericho is ''a joy to behold,'' says Harpur, who picked fresh fruit and heard guide Eli Spector recall story of how Joshua's troops surrounded city ''and walls came tumblin' down.''
