Tales for the young. All have been newly translated and especially selected by the unnamed editor as seeming ''most suited for juvenile reading; in which respect the plan of the work will be found to differ from any other selection that has hitherto appeared''. First and only edition of this obscure translation of 16 stories if one can trust the precise dating given by Bredsdorff in ''Hans Christian Andersen 1805--2nd April--1955 : catalogue of a jubilee exhibition held at the National Book League'', then this book contains the earliest English language printing of ''The Poor Match Girl'' -- predating by one month the Charles Boner version published in The Dream of Little Tuk and other Tales. Illustrations engraved and signed by E. and G. Dalziel; one plate signed: WBS [i.e. William Bell Scott, illustrator]. Publisher's advertisements on [2] p. at end.
