Original Toronto Star caption: On terms yet to be announced, and about which there is a great deal of speculation in financial circles to-day, the Ontario government is to take over the Abitibi Canyon power development as a result of the financial difficulties of the Ontario Power Service Corporation, a subsidiary of the Abitibi Power and Paper Co. Above are 1) site of the development of Abitibi Canyon, north of Cochrane, opposite milage 72 on the T. and N.O. extension and 90 miles south of the railway's proposed James Bay terminus at Moose Factory. The temporary suspension bridge seen in the picture spans the gorge at the point where the $23,000,000 dam and power plant was planned. From the suspension bridge level to the river's surface is a drop of 160 feet.
