Original Toronto Star caption: New hope: Monica McGhie, 18, flew half way around the world from Perth, Australia, to be fitted with artificial arms at the Ontario Centre for Crippled Children. Bill Sauter, director of the centre's myoelectrics department, shows Monica the functions of the prosthetic device. A high school graduate, Monica types, paints, hooks rugs and does other crafts.

New home for Hedgehog: Kim Dormaar, assistant director of new Metro zoo, holds a hedgehog from Asia, one of 5,000 animals, birds, reptiles and fish which will live in the 700-acre zoo. In order to raise funds for the new zoo, Metro's six mayors and thousands of zoo supporters are today walking 15 miles in hopes of raising $500,000 towards $6 million zoo fund objective. The zoo, being built in northeastern corner of Scarborough, will open next summer.

James D. Robinson III, chairman of New York based American Express Co., pictured at the Toronto Stock Exchange where his company's shares were listed for the first time yesterday. The firm is currently facing a challenge to its domination of the travellers' cheque market from Visa and Master Charge, whose credit cards dominate the international bank card scene. Master Charge hopes to be in the business by next May and Visa will make a decision shortly.
