Original Toronto Star caption: Colonel Sam, the pioneer automobile man. Colonel Sam McLauglin, Canada's most famour automobile pioneer, posed at his Oshawa mansion in September, 1971, a few days before his 100 birthday. (He died the following January.) Star photographer Harold Barkley was invited to take pictures of Colonel Sam and, of course, decided to photograph him with one of his early cars. It is a 1908 Model F McLauglin. Auto magazines and newspapers have since made wide use of this Barkley photo.
