To Her Royal Highness, the Princess Amelia, this book, representing the Birth-day gift, or, The joy of a new doll. From papers cut by a Lady, is with permission most humbly dedicated by Her Royal Highness's very much obliged servant, P. W. Tomkins, historical engraver to Her Majesty. 1996 microform ed. reproduced from the original in the Bodleian Library includes letter from Judith St. John, librarian of the Osborne Coll., and photocopied excerpt from The daughters of George III, by Dorothy Margaret Stuart, both concerning authorship by Princess Elizabeth, rather than Elizabeth Upton. Copy 1: A label for ''Tomkins, stationer and printseller'' is inside the front marbled paper cover. Copy 2: Engraved on white paper. Bound in half calf and paper over boards with a printed label bearing the seal and rame of Margaret Poulett. Copy 3: Engraved on white paper. Includes one plate ''The dancing dog'' from another work; it is dated July 1, 1795 and is signed by the artist as ''H[er] R[oyal] H[ighness] P[rincess] E[lizabeth]. Bound with: To the Queen this book of etchings from papers cut by the Right Honorable Lady Templeton. London : J.F. Tomkins, June 4, 1790. Seven pictures, engraved on green paper with legends, are mounted on seven leaves. The entry is taken from the first leaf which bears the dedication enclosed in an oval ornamental border engraved by T. Tomkins with calligraphy by J. Girtin.
