Original Toronto Star caption: Murnaghan and Transfeldt discuss the delicate hand surgery they'll be performing on their fourth surgical patient of the day, a young foreign student with a dislocated thumb that refuses to pop back into the joint. Murnaghan has examined the student, who came into the emergency department at about noon - he's under anaesthetic and waiting for a operating room to be free. Using advanced image enhancement equipment, basically a large x-ray unit linked to a video monitor, the two surgeons will place stabilizing pins into the joint without opening up the hand.
